Mary E. Homan, DrPH, MA, MSHCE is the vice president of theology and ethics for CommonSpirit Health, Mountain Region serving the ministries in Colorado, Utah, & Kansas. Previously Mary was division vice president of theology and ethics for CommonSpirit Health in Arizona and Nevada. Dr. Homan most recently served as the senior director of ethics for Providence's Puget Sound area and in July 2021, she was appointed as ethicist for the Washington State Disaster Medical Advisory Committee for a two-year term. Dr. Homan holds an adjunct associate professor position in the department of community health in the Institute for Health & Equity at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She serves on the steering committee for MKE Elevate, the City of Milwaukee's Community Health Improvement Plan as well as the fetal and infant mortality review. Dr. Homan co-founded and is past president of the Bioethics Network of the Upper Midwest (BENUM). Previously, Dr. Homan served as the director of ethics at Mercy Oklahoma. Prior to Mercy, Dr. Homan was the director of mission and ethics for St. Francis Health Center, Topeka, Kansas. Dr. Homan was an evaluation and data analyst at the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, University of Missouri. Before MU, Dr. Homan served as research analyst for Controlling Asthma in St. Louis (CASL), a CDC-funded demonstration site at Saint Louis University. She earned a BA in theological studies from Saint Louis University in 2004, a MA in systematic theology from Aquinas Institute of Theology in 2006, and MS in health care ethics from Creighton University in 2013. She completed a doctorate in public health in 2017 at the College of Public Health, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Her dissertation research won the 2017 Mercy Innovation Award in Service Excellence.
